Innovation is about change. Change can be seen in two ways: evolutionary or disruptive. Evolutionary change is the slow growth of companies, disruptive or revolutionary change is for instance inventing the iPhone. It turns an entire industry upside down.
To cause innovation there are several tools such as TRIZ and ASIT. It turns around your way of thinking instead of just 'thinking outside the box', which is an overused term these days.
